This book is well organized and simple maps for each trip but that is about it. The information is so sparse as to be worthless for any particular area. Also the trips are all oriented around someone living or flying into Portland and starting a trip from that area. Someone driving into the state from the north, east, or south will have to reorient themselves with a good map of the state.For example there is a Highway 101 Oregon Coast trip. It advises that the best time to go is from July to October which is also when there is the greatest chance of fog along the coast. The "Essential Photo" for this scenic trip is the "full-size T-rex outside Prehistoric Gardens, ignoring the haystacks and old growth forests and estuaries as not of interest for someone with a camera.The town of Astoria warrants fewer than 80 words, but as many words are used to talk about how it was where the TV show The Goonies was filmed in part.Without a doubt the worst travel guide I have ever read. One gets a great deal more information in a Sunset magazine article.Important details are left out as with the Dean Creek Elk Viewing Area that is east of Reedsport where no mention is made that you will not see elk there in May and June as the cows go to higher ground to calve.I have purchased many Lonely Planet travel books in the past and was mistaken that this book would be of similar caliber and value. It is not. You will be better served browsing the Web and going to local tourism and chamber of commerce and Oregon state websites or using Trip Advisor to plan your trip.
I am so pleased with this book! It's layout is very simple and easy to follow. Trips are laid out with sights of interest and approximate time to explore each.There are recommendations for restaurants and sleeping options - including contact information for each so that it is a breeze to make arrangements. My husband and I are newly retired and are looking forward to exploring some new places in our beloved Pacific Northwest! This is a wonderful resource for locals as well as those who are newer to our beautiful region.
Interesting to see sites listed by drives / routes rather than by state or town. Highlighted several areas overlooked in other guides. We will be using this in support of rather than replacing a conventional guide book, and for that it is excellent.

I’m planning a trip soon and this helps it comes with map so it’s very helpful. I’m more of a book person so I prefer to have it in front of me than on my phone.
